I lived in North Yorkshire as a teenager. The town I lived in, served as a backdrop for my novella A Kind of Homecoming. The local paper was kind enough to feature a piece about it. The link is below.

Interview with Historical Novel Society
This is a six-minute clip from the film, “Oh What A Lovely War.” This scene depicts the truce of 1914 when British and German soldiers came out of their trenches and met in no man’s land to celebrate Christmas Day. One of the German soldiers tells the British that he had a girl in England before the war. I thought that would make for an interesting story. So, I wrote “A Kind of Homecoming,” to tell the story of this young man and the English girl he was in love with.
